ALBAY, Philippines — Former Daraga, Albay Mayor Carlwyn Baldo, the alleged mastermind in the murder of AKO Bicol Party list Rep. Rodel Batocabe has been allowed temporary release from detention .
According to Batocabe’s son Atty. Justin Batocabe, the Legazpi City RTC Branch 10 granted bail to the former mayor.
In a statement, the younger Batocabe expressed outrage over the decision.
“Ang murder charges laban kay Baldo ay non-bailable kayat matinding dagok ang kautusang ito sa aming pamilya, sa alaala ng aking ama at sa mga taong nananalig sa sistema ng hustisya sa Pilipinas,” Atty. Justin said.
“Malinaw po ang tinutumbok ng mga ebidensya. Walang dudang si Awin Baldo ang nagpapatay sa aking Ama,” he added.
Atty. Batocabe slammed the ruling and called it an ‘injustice’ as if the pieces of evidence against the accused were not enough.
“Dagdag pa po na ang murder ay non-bailable! Non-bailable na nga, malakas at matibay pang ebidensya. Bakit pinahihintulutang makalaya ang isang mamamatay tao?” Rep. Batocabe’s lawyer-son lamented.
On December 22 last year, Rep. Batocabe and his police escort Patrolman Orlando Diaz were gunned down while giving gifts to senior citizens and persons with disabilities in Barangay Burgos in Daraga, Albay.
Batocabe was supposed to run against Baldo for the mayoral race in the municipality of Daraga.
Batocabe and Diaz were rushed to Ago Medical Hospital in Legazpi City but were declared dead on arrival.
