The four convicted Chinese drug lords that were released through the implementation of the good conduct time allowance (GCTA) remain under the Bureau of Immigration (BI) custody.

According to BI Deputy Spokesperson Melvin Mabulac, the four convicts are with other foreign detainees at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig while the Department of Justice (DOJ) is still reviewing several provisions in the Republic Act 10592 or the GCTA law.

“Yes, we confirm na nasa custody ng Bureau of Immigration. Nasa daily check—physical check ng ating mga headcount ng ating mga detainee, nandoon sila (Yes we confirm they are in the custody of Bureau of Immigration. They are with our other detainees and are included in our daily physical check),” he said.

The deportation proceedings of Cham Chit Yue, Kin San Ho, Ching He and Wu Hing Sum were temporarily postponed after they were released from the maximum security compound last June.

Mabulac said the immigration bureau will assure that foreign individuals set to be deported will be free from crime.

Meanwhile, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said the foreign drug lords might possibly return to the New Bilibid Prison once the DOJ finishes reviewing the GCTA provisions.—AAC (with reports from Mai Bermudez)
