Former Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) chief Nicanor Faeldon

MANILA, Philippines – Former Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) chief Nicanor Faeldon on Thursday said he has “never been happier” after his removal from office.

Speaking to reporters before attending a Senate inquiry on Thursday afternoon, Faeldon said he feels lighter and can now soundly sleep.

“I’ve never been happier than now. You know, ‘pag nawalan ka ng yoke sa balikat mo, you can soundly sleep,” he said.

President Rodrigo Duterte fired Faeldon on Wednesday night, saying he disobeyed his order.

The president said his order to Faeldon and Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra was “no releases until further order by higher authority,” given the public uproar over the possible release of convicted rapist-murderer Antonio Sanchez and other convicted heinous criminals for good conduct credits.

Prior to heading the BuCor, Faeldon was appointed as chief of the Bureau of Customs (BOC). It was during his time when the billions worth of shabu slipped past the agency.

After quitting the BOC, he had a brief stint at the Office of the Civil Defense as deputy administrator before he was appointed to BuCor in 2018.

Faeldon has refused to answer questions whether he still wishes to work for other government agencies after his firing.
