The Bureau of Corrections has released three convicted Chinese drug lords despite the opposition of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
In an exclusive report of UNTV News reporter Lea Ylagan, The Bureau of Pardons and Parole (BPP) wrote to PDEA for an opinion on a possible executive clemency for around 30 drug convicts.
Based on PDEA’s response, 15 of them no longer have pending cases hence the approval of their release.
However, PDEA opposed the release of 13 convicted Chinese drug lords due to the severity of their cases.
Despite PDEA’s opposition, BuCor still ordered the release of three convicted Chinese drug lords last June 4, 2019 which include 14 other foreign drug convicts.
This is proven by the list of 1,914 convicts released by BuCor which was exclusively obtained by UNTV News.

PDEA Spokesperson Dir. Derrick Carreon said they are dismayed by the BuCor’s said action.
“Tayo po ay sumagot sa liham na pinadala sa atin ng Bureau of Pardons and Parole at hindi na natin idinitalye iyong ating opposition doon sa certain candidates for grant of executive clemency kung saan iyong 13 doon ay may existing pang mga kaso kaya atin pong tinututulan, (We responded to the letter sent by the Bureau of Pardons and Parole and we did not expounded on our opposition to certain candidates for grant executive clemency where 13 of them still have existing cases).” he said.
Carreon added they are prepared to cooperate with the Philippine National Police (PNP) to rearrest drug convicts after the 15-day deadline given by President Rodrigo Duterte.

Meanwhile, the PNP continues to coordinate with the Bureau of Immigration regarding the released foreign convicts.—AAC (with reports from Lea Ylagan)
