MANILA, Philippines – The Senate of the Philippines on Tuesday (September 24) adopted a motion that authorizes the Senate committees to disclose the names of the high-ranking policemen involved in drug recycling or the so-called ‘ninja cops.’
Voting 17-0, the Senate allowed Senator Richard Gordon of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee to divulge the information from the September 19 executive session where former Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) now Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong named several top PNP officials linked in ‘Agaw Bato’ scheme or drug recycling.
The motion was filed by former PNP Chief now Senator Ronald dela Rosa.
Dela Rosa said his motion was “to be fair to the ones being alluded to” after the name of PNP Chief Oscar Albayalde, his successor in the PNP, was linked to the drug recycling controversy.
“The accused is presently the chief of the Philippine National Police and it would be very unfair if doubts are being cast down upon him,” Dela Rosa said.
Those who voted in favor of Dela Rosa’s motion were:
- Senate President Vicente Sotto III
- Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri
- Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon
- Senate Pro Tempore Ralph Recto
- Senator Nany Binay
- Senator Ronald Dela Rosa
- Senator Sherwin Gatchalian
- Senator Christopher Go
- Senator Risa Hontiveros
- Senator Panfilo Lacson
- Senator Imee Marcos
- Senator Manny Pacquiao
- Senator Grace Poe
- Senator Bong Revilla
- Senator Francis Tolentino
- Senator Joel Villanueva
- Senator Cynthia Villar
Earlier, Senator Bo Go mentioned President Rodrigo Duterte’s plan to disclose the names of ‘ninja cops’ in public once the list is validated.
“Sabi niya kailangan malaman ng publiko and (He [Duterte] said the public has the right to know) and soon I think he would personally announce,” Go said.
“Andyan pa rin ang reward: P1M sa ninja cops pag patay. Kapag buhay kalahating milyon. Kapag lumaban P2M, (The reward remains: P1M for a ninja cop killed; P5000,000 if alive and P2M if the person resists arrest),” he concluded. – MNP (with details from Bernard Dadis)
