MANILA, Philippines – The operation of the Light Rail Transit line 2 (LRT-2) was temporarily halted on Thursday (Oct. 3) after a power rectifier tripped and caught fire in between two stations.
In an advisory, the LRT-2 management said it suspended its operations around 11:24 a.m. after its Rectifier Substation (RSS) 5 located at Katipunan station tripped.
The carriageway between Anonas and Katipunan Stations caught fire and cut the power supply for trains.
“The fire that was seen along the carriageway between Anonas & Katipunan stations was caused by the tripping off of Rectifier Substation (RSS) 5 located at Katipunan station,” the LRT-2 management said.
The train management assured the fire that broke out between stations has been contained.
Affected passengers have been evacuated while LRT-2 personnel are probing the possible cause of the incident.
“Investigation and intervention is ongoing. Apologies for the inconvenience,” the LRT-2 management said.
