The local government of Manila on Tuesday shut down a warehouse in Tondo, Manila where more than 10 tons of illegally imported meat products from China were seized.
Local authorities served the closure order at the storage facility, however, it was only received by the village chief Benjamin Torres when no warehouse staffer was available to meet them.
The warehouse was allegedly owned by a certain Danilo Yulo while the smuggled meat products from China were purportedly owned by a certain Jalen Yang.
Last December 13, a total of P10 million worth of illegally imported meat products from China were seized by the Manila Veterinary Inspection Board.
Ibay said investigation also revealed that Yulo has no license nor permit to operate any business in Manila.
The city government said charges for violation of Food Safety, Meat Inspection Code of the Philippines, and failure to obtain a permit to operation will be filed against Yulo and Yang.
