MANILA, Philippines – The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) on Thursday said it has not monitored any untoward incident during the handing down of the verdict of the Ampatuan massacre case in Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City.

NCRPO spokesperson Major Britz Estadilla attributed this to the stringent security measures they implemented in the vicinity of the camp, as well as the controlled ingress and egress of people, and the lockdown a day before the promulgation.

“May konti lang reklamo kung bakit sobrang istrikto pero na-explain naman po namin sa kanila na para sa safety ng promulgation,” Estadilla told reporters.

The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) also said that the promulgation was orderly and peacefully held following safety protocols implemented in Camp Bagong Diwa.

“Natutuwa kami na maayos ang security na nailatag ng PNP at BJMP. Yung security protocols natin ay nasunod naman… At wala naman tayong naging problema sa court proceedings,” BJMP spokesperson Chief Inspector Xavier Solda said.

“Naging cooperative naman ang mga persons deprived of liberty (PDL) natin, yun lang after na mabasa yung guilty verdict ay may mga nag-react na PDL,” he added.

Four members of the Ampatuan clan were found guilty of murder by the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 221 while other accused were acquitted on the ground of reasonable doubt.

The convicted Ampatuans were then brought to the New Bilibid Prison after the promulgation.

Prior to the transfer, the NCRPO conducted an aerial inspection on the route that would be taken by the convoy of vehicles bearing the Ampatuans.

The UNTV News and Rescue Team were with the NCRPO team to cover the inspection exclusively.

During the transfer, the Ampatuans were boarded in a convoy of vehicles while a Police helicopter hovered above to ensure their safety.

Authorities said the operations and security policies inside the Camp Bagong Diwa are now back to normal. The security lockdown has also been lifted since three p.m. – RRD (with details from Correspondent Lea Ylagan)
