MANILA, Philippines – Typhoon Ursula has made landfall over Salcedo, Eastern Samar at 4:45 PM today (December 24).
According to PAGASA’s 4:00 PM bulletin, the eye of the typhoon was located at 20 km East Northeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar while moving westward at 25 kph.
It is packed with maximum sustained winds of 120 kph and gustiness of up to 150 kph.
PAGASA said Typhoon Ursula is bringing violent winds over the southern portion of Eastern Samar and is likely to affect Biliran, the southern portion of Samar, and the northern portion of Leyte in the coming hours.
The state weather agency said moderate to strong winds are expected over Bicol Region and portions of Central Visayas tonight.
Similar conditions will be experienced in CALABARZON, and portions of MIMAROPA and Western Visayas tomorrow morning.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila, Bulacan, and Bataan will experience moderate to strong winds tomorrow afternoon which may cause light damage to medium to high-risk structures.
PAGASA warned destructive typhoon force winds to begin affecting areas under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) #3 specifically in Masbate including Ticao Islands and portions of Northern Cebu late evening.
This condition may cause heavy damage to high-risk structures in the affected areas.
Meanwhile, damaging gale to storm-force winds are expected to begin affecting areas under Signal #2 which include Albay, Sorsogon, Romblon, Aklan, Capiz and portions of Antique, Iloilo, and rest of northern Cebu tonight; in Marinduque, the southern portion of Quezon, Mindoro Provinces tomorrow morning.
This may bring light to moderate damage to high-risk structures and at most light damage to medium-risk structures.
Meanwhile, PAGASA also warned against a storm surge of up to two meters that may affect the several coastal areas of Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, and Leyte.
Thus, sea travel remains risky over these areas because of rough sea conditions that will prevail starting today over the eastern seaboards of the country; this afternoon or tonight over the inland waters of Southern Luzon and Visayas and tomorrow afternoon over the western seaboards of Southern Luzon.
