Motorcycle accidents in Metro Manila increased to over 31,000 in 2019, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
Based on the Metro Manila Accident Reporting and Analysis System, there were 31,279 motorcycle-related road crashes in 2019. That is an average of 86 cases per day.
The recent record is higher compared to the 26,652 motorcycle-related accidents in 2018.
“May 212 katao ang nasawi habang 14,341 ang nasugatan na binubuo ng rider, pasahero at tumatawid, (There are 212 who died while 14,341 were injured riders, passengers and pedestrians)” the MMDA said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Traffic Engineering Center (MMDA-TEC) – Road Safety Unit recorded a total of 121,771 road crashes in the Metro Manila last 2019.
Most of the road accidents occurred on EDSA with 17,382 reported accidents, followed by C5 with 8,735 and Commonwealth Avenue with 4,998.—AAC
