MANILA, Philippines – Seven foreigners caught violating immigration laws are currently facing deportation proceedings, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said.
In a statement issued Sunday, March 1, the BI said five Korean and two Vietnamese nationals were arrested by its agents on February 11 for working without permits in Pampanga.
The foreigners were nabbed while in the act of working as laborers in a construction site in Clark Sharp Hills in Angeles City, Pampanga.
The bureau said the arrest follows reports they received on aliens working in the site without proper visas.
“We conducted a case buildup, and upon confirmation, the Commissioner issued a mission order to implement the arrest,” BI Intelligence Division Chief Fortunato Manahan said.
“Upon inspection, the 7 were found to be undocumented, hence they were arrested and will be subjected to deportation proceedings,” he added.
The bureau said these foreigners face immigration raps for violating the conditions of their stay by working without appropriate permits, as stated in the Philippine Immigration Act of 1940.
They are temporarily detained at the BI Detention Center in Bicutan, Taguig pending deportation proceedings, it added.
