MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Health (DOH) is not requiring the 196 Filipino repatriates from Macau to stay in a quarantine facility upon their arrival in the Philippines next week.

Instead, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said they will only be required to do a 14-day home or self quarantine since they are just considered persons under monitoring (PUM).

The Health Secretary explained this is because they are not coming from Wuhan City in China, the epicenter of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak.

The DOH is joined in by the Bureau of Quarantine and the local government units in monitoring the health conditions of all repatriates.

If ever they show symptoms or signs of COVID-19, that’s the time they will be required hospital confinement.

Masiguradong binabantayan sila (We want to ensure that they are properly monitored) by way of monitoring for fever, cough and colds and other symptoms of respiratory illness,”

Meanwhile, the DOH insists that they have enough funds to address the needs of every potential coronavirus patient. MNP (with details from Aiko Miguel)
