MANILA, Philippines — The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID) approved a new resolution on Friday (May 15), defining the quarantine status of several areas that are deemed to still be at risk of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and those that had to be eased of the restrictions.
Under Resolution No. 37 that was released on Saturday, Cebu City and Mandaue City are placed under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) until the end of May.
Cebu City which, in Resolution No. 35, was initially listed among places under modified ECQ was elevated once again to a lockdown status with stricter protocols.
Other than Metro Manila and Laguna, which were earlier announced to be under a modified ECQ (MECQ), the resolution also added Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Zambales, and Angeles City in Pampanga to be placed under the modified lockdown.
The IATF said this decision is issued “without prejudice to the declaration of localized ECQ in critical areas.”
The taskforce added that areas not mentioned in the resolution will be placed under general community quarantine (GCQ).
The IATF further said that these changes were made after the sub-TWG on Data Analytics have validated the data on updated case number and health system capacity, and in consideration of the appeals of the local governments.
At present, the Philippines has recorded 12,091 COVID-19 cases, with 2,460 recoveries and 806 deaths. — /mbmf
