The Philippine National Police (PNP) said it is not blaming the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) for the death of a police doctor.
In a statement, the PNP said they wish to coordinate with the OCD to help with the investigation on the source of the disinfectant spray that was used at the quarantine facilities of the PNP.
“The Chief PNP wishes to clarify that the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) is neither blamed nor pointed to as the source of the concentrated disinfectant solution used by medical and healthcare personnel at the Philsports Arena Temporary Treatment and Monitoring facility,” the statement reads.
PNP General Hospital doctor Casey Gutierrez passed away on May 31, days after reporting to have difficulty in breathing. Gutierrez reportedly inhaled the mist in the disinfectant spray used during the decontamination procedure at the Philippine Sports Arena Quarantine Facility.
“In the interest of a thorough investigation, it was suggested that the OCD be asked to assist in the determination of the chemicals’ source given that it was OCD that accredited the service providers in the quarantine facilities operated by the PNP,” the PNP said.
Meanwhile, based on the Facebook post of wife Shella Gutierrez, Casey tested negative of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), based on the result of his swab test. —AAC (with reports from Lea Ylagan)
