The Department of Education (DepEd) has reported that 9.9 million students have enrolled for the incoming school year.
During the Senate Committee on Basic Education, Arts and Culture hearing on Thursday (June 11), DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones said the number of enrollees is equal to 36% of their projected enrollment for this year.
As of June 11, 4.8 million students enrolled in elementary level while 3.2 million in high school. Briones said this shows the cooperation between parents, teachers, and local government units.
Enrollment period will last until June 30 while the department assures they will be prepared as classes will resume on August 24 under blended and distanced learning.
“We know it is very difficult, it is very tough. Right now, we would not be ready on this day but August 24, we can be ready and we are on the road to readiness,” she said. —AAC (with reports from Harlene Delgado)
