The health capacity of Cebu City is nearing critical level as number of hospital admissions due to COVID-19 continues to rise.
Department of Health Spokesperson Usec. Maria Rosario Vergeire said 50-80% of the hospital beds and mechanical ventilators are already occupied.
“Tiningnan naman nila iyong capacity ng health system at nakita din nila na nag-aaproach na sa critical level ang mga facilities doon sa Cebu City (They also checked the capacity of the city’s health system and they saw that the facilities are approaching critical level),” she said.
Meanwhile, the DOH is looking at the implementation of protocols and the social practices of residents that could have influenced the rapid rise in community transmission of coronavirus.
“Mayroon ba silang common na ginagawa na nakaka-increase ng transmission (Did they have common practices that increased transmission) like there would be these gatherings na kailangan pinupuntahan (they need to attend) because they have this part or culture, practices in their area,” Vergeire said.
The DOH also said they will release their findings by next week. AAC (with reports from Aiko Miguel)
