The Department of Health (DOH) has warned the public against steam inhalation as a way to kill or prevent coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
In a statement, the DOH said inhaling steam with lemon, salt or any other ingredients is not a good preventive measure against the virus. The department added that steam inhalation might possibly spread the virus.
“Ang steam inhalation ay nagpaparami ng secretions sa ilong na posibleng makahawa sa iba sa pamamagitan ng pagbahing o pag-ubo, (Steam inhalation might increase nose secretions which might increase the possibility of infecting others with the virus through sneezing or coughing),” the DOH said.
The World Health Organization (WHO) also said there are no current scientific research that would prove the effectiveness of steam inhalation in killing or preventing the spread of COVID-19. AAC
