The Manila City government has launched ‘Plastic-Free July’ to encourage residents to take on a more eco-friendly lifestyle and help save the environment.
The local government and the Department of Public Services (DPS) remind residents to be responsible in taking out their trash. Residents can also bring cloth bags while shopping; refuse plastic straws and bring their own container for take-out food and water.
Meanwhile, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) is promoting plant-based diet to fight climate change. In a statement, the department said switching to a plant-based diet reduces the ecological footprint of human food consumption.
Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) Director William Cuñado said a plant-based diet is also beneficial to one’s health.
“By gradually modifying our meals and shifting to balanced diets with more plant-based food, we have already taken part in reducing greenhouse gases, which in turn will help slow down the rise in global temperatures,” he said. AAC
