
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Tuesday (August 18) announced the inauguration of the Center for Emerging and Reemerging Infectious Disease (CERID), the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) facility at the East Avenue Medical Center (EAMC) on Monday.
In a statement, the DPWH the Center would enable EAMC to accommodate more patients in need of medical attention especially the COVID-19 patients.

“As the government attends to the health emergency, the DPWH thru the Task Force to Facilitate Augmentation of Local and National Healthcare Facilities is glad to have provided technical and construction management assistance to the Department of Health (DOH) and to the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) in expediting the completion of the 3rd to 6th floors of the new hospital building of EAMC,” the DPWH said.
The six-story CERID building has a maximum capacity of 250 beds.
The statement also said that two (2) additional dormitories for 64 medical doctors and staff recently completed by the DPWH at the Quezon Memorial Circle will be turned over to the Quezon City local government on August 20, 2020.
The agency said the two newly-completed dormitories which are expected to provide safer and better lodging for the country’s modern heroes are an addition to the previously completed four dormitories that are now almost full of healthcare workers.
The four dormitories are located at the National Kidney Transplant Institute (NKTI), the East Avenue Medical Center (EAMC), the Philippine Heart Center (PHC), and the Children’s Hospital.
