MANILA, Philippines — The House of Representatives (HOR) on Tuesday evening (November 24) approved another bill mandating the planting of trees, this time as a requisite for the issuance of building permits.
With 238 affirmative votes and no negative vote House Bill 7763 was approved on third and final reading.
House Bill 7763 or ‘An Act Mandating the Submission of a Tree Planting Plan as a Requirement for the Application of Building Permits’ seeks to mitigate the effects of climate change and preserve the environment for present and future generations.
It also mandates the planting of trees for any construction of residential, commercial, industrial and public buildings.
The plan should specify a tree-planting site within a property and should contain information on the total area of the project, layout and the number of trees to be planted.
House Bill No. 7763 followed two other measures that require the planting of trees as a requirement in government transactions.
The other two measures were House Bill No. 6930 which mandates parents to plant two trees for every child born and House Bill No. 6931 which seeks to require students in the elementary to college levels of education to plant two trees in order to graduate.
