
MANILA, Philippines – The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) warns against consumption of shellfish from coastal waters of Leyte and Samar.
Based on the results of tests conducted by BFAR and local government units (LGUs) on water samples from the area, shellfish collected in these waters were positive for Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP) that is beyond the regulatory limit.
The affected areas are the following.
- Coastal Waters of Biliran Islands
- Coastal Waters of Calubian, Leyte
- Coastal Waters of Leyte, Leyte
- Coastal Waters of Guiuan, Eastern Samar
- Cambatutay Bay- Tarangnan, Samar
- Maqueda Bay- Jiabong, Motiong, Paranas,San, Sebastian,Calbiga, Pinabacdao, Hinabangan, Samar
- Villareal Bay- Villareal, Samar
- Carigara Bay- Babatngon, San Miguel, Barugo, Carigara and Capoocan, Leyte
- Coastal Waters of Daram, Samar
- San Pedro Bay- Basey, Samar
- Matarinao Bay- General MacArthur, Hernani, Quinapondan, and Salcedo in Eastern Samar
- Cancabato Bay- Tacloban City
- Coastal Waters of Zumarraga, Samar
- Irong-irong Bay- Catbalogan, Samar
All types of shellfish and Acetes sp. or alamang gathered from these areas are NOT SAFE for human consumption.
