MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has begun the investigation on the unauthorized use of COVID-19 vaccines by members of the Presidential Security Group (PSG).
NBI Spokesperson Atty. Ferdinand Lavin said the bureau has already assigned their special action unit to gather information on the vaccination of several personnel of the PSG.
“Ine-expect namin na kakausapin namin si Brigadier General Jesus Durante upang maliwanagan itong pangyayari (We expect to discuss the issue with Brigadier General Durante to shed light on the matter) so he can provide the details surrounding the circumstances on the incident regarding this vaccination,” he said.
Lavin also said they will coordinate with the Bureau of Customs (BOC) to determine how the shipment of unapproved vaccines entered the country.
Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Delfin Lorenzana previously confirmed the vaccines used by the PSG were “smuggled” and were not authorized by the government through the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Guevarra said the department order on the said investigation will be released on Monday (January 4).
“It will be released officially today, but I have given the verbal order to the NBI last week before the holiday break,” he said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the NBI official also added, they will also investigate the other officials that were inoculated by the unauthorized vaccines.
“Not only focusing or relating in particular to the incident involving the PSG, but the other vaccinations as well,” according to Lavin in a phone interview.
