The Pasay City local government has opened the first giga vaccination hub for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) at SM MOA’s Galeon Dome on Friday (May 7).
Pasay Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano said this aims to speed up the vaccine rollout for residents and for the country to reach herd immunity by November.
Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr, Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III, and Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque Jr. attended the simulation exercise.
Rubiano says the center has a 2,000 capacity. The area is spacious and fitted with an air-conditioning system which ensures that proper health and safety protocols are followed. The vaccination hub also has a drive-thru vaccination area.
As of May 4, a total of 25,137 Pasay residents received the first dose of COVID-19.
Rubiano also reported that there has been a decrease in the daily COVID-19 cases recorded in Pasay City, from around 1,000 to only 100 cases daily.
She reiterated the need to abide by the health and safety protocol despite the lowering of cases. AAC (with reports from JP Nuñez)
