MANILA, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte has declared May 13, Thursday, as a regular holiday in the country for the observance of Eid’l Fitr or the end of the month of fasting (Feast of Ramadhan) for the Muslim community, Malacañang said Monday.
Duterte signed Proclamation No. 1142 on Monday after the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos recommended declaring the date a holiday.
“In order to bring the religious and cultural significance of the Eid’l Fitr to the fore of national consciousness, it is necessary to declare Thursday, May 13, a regular holiday throughout the country,” the proclamation read.
Eid’l Fitr is celebrated by the Muslims for three days at the end of the month of fasting.
