MANILA, Philippines — Local government units in the National Capital Region have started mass vaccination using the COVID vaccine from Pfizer.
Among the 1,500 individuals who received the vaccine in San Juan City were health workers, senior citizens and adults with comorbidity.
The city received a total of 11,700 doses of Pfizer COVID vaccine.
“Lahat ng preparasyon dito kinakailangan talaga paghandaan mabuti kung hindi ay posibleng makompromiso ang efficacy ng ating bakuna kaya pinag-aralan talaga itong mabuti at nagtraining ang ating mga staff,” said San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora.
On Wednesday, the city of Makati also administered Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines to its intended recipients in the mass vaccination held at the Makati Medical Center.
Makati City received 5,800 doses of Pfizer vaccines which it planned to administer to 500 persons a day.
Meanwhile, the city government of Manila already received its share of more than 7,000 Pfizer vaccines.
The city government is set to start its mass vaccination using Pfizer vaccine on Thursday (May 13) on A1 to A3 priority groups.
The initial number of 210 doses will be given to Sta. Ana Hospital.
“Kaalinsabay nito yung ibang director ng lima pang ospital ay manonood babantayan titignan aaralin sa actual deployment upang matuto rin nang sa ganun madeploy natin sa anim na ospital. Hindi lang sa isang ospital, na mayroong karagdagang pag-iingat sa pag-manage ng bakuna,” said Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso.
The Quezon City government which received 5,800 doses will begin its vaccination on Thursday.
Each city has a proper cold storage for the vaccine to keep its efficacy and avoid wastage.
This is the initial batch of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines from the COVAX Facility managed by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is recommended to individuals aged 18 to 65 years old.
It has an efficacy rate of 95% and displays a number of side effects such as pain, redness and swelling of the injection section of the arm, fatigue, headache, muscle pain, shivering, fever and vomiting.
The second dose for Pfizer vaccine will be given after 21 to 28 days. MNP (with reports from Marvin Calas)
