MANILA, Philippines—The Department of Education (DepEd) has warned against posting students report cards on social media to prevent hacking.
The Education Department reminded parents, guardians, and students not to post report cards, ID’s, and other school certificates on social media to prevent hacking and identity theft.
Among the information that should not be disclosed is the learner reference number (LRN) which students use until the end of the school year.
A Grade 11 student has recently fallen a victim to hacking. She admitted that she posted several information, including her LRN on her social media pages.
School teacher Reneboy Payong said they understand that parents are proud of their children’s achievements, however, they should be aware of the risks when posting personal information online.
“Sabi ng DepEd ang possibility kasi niyan gamitin ang kanilang mga data sa tinatawag nating identify theft and fraud so iyon ang iniiwasan natin,” he said.
(The DepEd said it could lead to the data being used for identity theft and fraud, so that is what we are trying to avoid.) AAC (with reports from Janice Ingente)
