MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) on Thursday reported a new record for the highest number of new COVID-19 infections in a single day with 22,820.
In its 8:30 p.m. bulletin, the DOH said the latest figure pushed the country’s active cases to 166,672, and the total confirmed infections to 2,161,892.
Of the active cases, 87 percent are mild, 2.65 percent are moderate, 8.3 percent are asymptomatic, 1.4 percent are severe, and 0.7 percent are in critical condition.
The DOH noted in its report that all accredited testing laboratories in the country were operational on Sept. 7 but five laboratories failed to submit data on time.
Meanwhile, total recoveries climbed to 1,960,487 after 12,337 more patients recovered from the disease.
The death toll rose to 34,733 with 61 new fatalities.
Government data also showed that 75 percent of 4,100 ICU beds nationwide are occupied.
Around 69 percent of nearly 21,000 isolation beds in the country are also in use while 72 percent of 15,500 ward beds are occupied.
Data also showed that 58 percent of the more than 3,000 ventilators in the country are being utilized.
In the National Capital Region, 73 percent of the total 1,400 ICU beds are occupied.
Around 65 percent of the 4,700 isolation beds are in use while 73 percent of the 4,400 ward beds are being utilized.
Of the total 1,200 ventilators in the capital region, 62 percent are being used.
The COVID-19 positivity rate in the country was at 29.4 percent out of the 74,706 tests conducted on September 7, the DOH said.
