MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) advised the public to register for Philippine Identification (PhilID) card at PhilSys’ official website to make sure of getting a genuine National ID.

This, after the PSA received information on the proliferation of social media accounts and websites claiming they are legitimate online accounts of PSA and PhilSys.

In an interview on Wednesday (September 15), PSA Assistant Secretary Rose Bautista said they are determined to file appropriate cases against producers of fake PhilID.

“Para sa mga maga-attempt na mag peke ng kanilang ID o mag-produce ng kanilang ID, mayroon po tayong karapatan [mag-enforce] ng penalties at charges,” she said.

“Mayroon po kaming division dito sa PhilSys registry office na who will look into at mag-file ng kaso para doon sa mga madi-discover namin ito ang mga pekeng ID na prinesent nila,” she added.

Thus, the official asked the public not to post their National ID on social media as they are exposing their identity.

“Ang iba masyadong excited kapag nakuha na nila ang kanilang PhilID. Pini-picture nila. Please lang po huwag ninyong gawin iyan. Iyan po ay something na dapat ay itinatago at hindi ineexpose sa fraud,” Bautista stressed.

Production and presentation of fake PhilID face a penalty of P1-M to P3-M and imprisonment from three to six years under the Implementing Rules and Regulations of the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) Act.

The PSA is encouraging all Filipinos to register for the National ID given that the online registration remains open even amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
