Philippines posts 16,989 new COVID-19 cases

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines on Wednesday listed 16,989 more COVID-19 cases, bringing the nationwide tally of confirmed infections to 2,283,011.

The Department of Health (DOH) said the latest tally pushed the country’s active cases to 170,446 — 85.4 percent of which are mild, 9.8 percent are asymptomatic, 2.77 percent are moderate, 1.4 percent are severe, and 0.7 percent are in critical condition.

All accredited testing laboratories were in operation on Sept. 13 but four laboratories failed to submit data on time.

The DOH also reported 2,076,823 total recoveries after 24,123 more patients survived the viral disease.

Deaths related to COVID-19 rose to 35,742 with 214 new fatalities.

DOH data also showed that 77 percent of 4,200 ICU beds nationwide are occupied.

Around 69 percent of 20,800 isolation beds in the country are also in use while 73 percent of 16,000 ward beds are occupied.

Data also showed that 57 percent of the more than 3,300 ventilators in the country are being utilized.

In the National Capital Region, 79 percent of the total 1,400 ICU beds are occupied.

Around 66 percent of the 4,400 isolation beds are in use while 73 percent of the 4,500 ward beds are being utilized.

Of the total 1,200 ventilators in the capital region, 61 percent are being used.

The DOH also reported a 25.9 percent COVID-19 positivity rate out of the 57,034 tests conducted on September 13.
