MANILA, Philippines – The number of students who enrolled for School Year (SY) 2021-2000 has reached 27 million, the Department of Education (DepEd) on Friday said.
The DepEd said there are a total of 27,583,701 students enrolled in this school year or 105.2 percent higher than the 26.2 million recorded last year.
DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones said this figure could still go up until the end of enrollment on Sept. 30.
“Ang magandang balita ay nalampasan natin ang enrollment last year. Even with change conditions more challenges nalagpasan natin,” she said.
“Nagpapakita ito na sa ating kultura mahalaga talaga ang edukasyon at ang parents, consider education as very important and crucial for the lives of children,” she added.
DepEd formally opened the new school year on Sept.13. The enrollment in public schools started on August 16 and was extended to Sept. 30 to accommodate late enrollees.
