Duterte wants in-depth probe into artist Bree Jonson’s death – Palace

MANILA, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered concerned agencies to conduct an in-depth investigation into the death of artist Bree Johnson, Malacañang said Monday.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the president also directed authorities to serve justice to the family of Jonson who was found lifeless in a resort in La Union on September 18, 2021.

“He has instructed the criminal justice system of the country to accord the victim justice,” Roque said.

“Pero kinakailangan po, hayaan natin na magpatuloy ang imbestigasyon para malaman natin kung ano talaga ang nangyari,” he added.

Jonson was with Julian Ongpin at the time her death. Ongpin is the son of businessman Bobby Ongpin.

Local police who responded to the area seized some 12.6 grams of illegal drugs. Based on the report of the local Crime Laboratory, Ongpin tested positive during the drug test.

Julian was briefly detained by police for alleged violation of Dangerous Drugs Act but was released pending results of the investigation.

The PNP and the National Bureau of Investigation have both launched investigation into the matter.

A wake for the deceased artist is being held in Davao. Her remains will be interred on Sept. 29.
