MANILA, Philippines – The camp of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on Monday said there is no possibility that the presidential daughter will be running for president under the ruling PDP-Laban party.
“Mayor Sara has no intention of becoming a member of PDP or of being its standard bearer now or in the near future,” Duterte-Carpio’s spokesperson, Liloan City Mayor Christina Frasco said in a statement.
Frasco issued the statement after PDP-Laban president Alfonso Cusi said that they may adopt Duterte-Carpio if she opts to rejoin the party. Cusi, however, admitted that they have yet to talk to the mayor.
Cusi made the remark after President Rodrigo Duterte mentioned the possibility of a tandem between his daughter and his longtime aide turned Senator Bong Go in the 2022 polls.
Go earlier filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for vice president.
Frasco pointed out that Duterte-Carpio already filed her COC for a third consecutive term as Davao City Mayor.
“Mayor Sara Duterte has already filed her Certificate of Candidacy for Mayor. Not being a member of PDP-Laban, she is not privy to the party’s sudden change of plans,” she said.
Sara Duterte-Carpio has consistently topped presidential surveys for the 2022 polls.
She has repeatedly rejected the possibility of joining any national party and seeking national posts despite the support of several political parties for a possible presidential bid.
