MANILA, Philippines – Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar on Wednesday ordered all police units to prevent the alleged extortion activities by the New People’s Army (NPA) during the election period.

The PNP chief also advised political candidates against giving in to the demands of the communist rebels and to coordinate with authorities in stopping illegal activities to ensure clean and orderly elections next year.

Eleazar assured the public that the police will remain vigilant against communist rebels and other local threat groups before, during and even after the elections.

He also asked for the public’s cooperation and to immediately report the presence of suspected NPA rebels or other lawless elements in their areas.
