Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has insisted that she will not be running for any national position in the government come 2022 elections.
Mayor Sara made the declaration two days before the deadline of the filing of certificates of candidacy (COC).
In her Facebook post, Mayor Sara said she won’t be running as president and has decided to run for reelection and finish her third term as local chief executive of the city of Davao.
Mayor Sara admits that it was not easy for her to come up with such a decision, knowing fully well that she will be offending a lot of individuals and groups in the process.
Nevertheless, the young Duterte insists that one doesn’t have to become a president to be of help to many and that she will still contribute to building the country.
Mayor Sara has earlier said that only one Duterte should run for a national position, prompting groups of people to call on her to run for higher office following President Rodrigo Duterte’s decision to no longer run as vice president.
Mayor Sara has filed her COC for reelection last Sunday, October 3. —/mbmf (from the report of UNTV Correspondent Janice Ingente)
