MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) has launched “Bakunado Panalo” raffle promo intended for those who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
The raffle promo is aimed at encouraging more Filipinos to receive COVID-19 vaccines,
The raffle, sponsored by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) in collaboration with the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF), aims to incentivize vaccination against COVID-19 to increase vaccine willingness and thank Filipinos for choosing to join the fight against COVID-19, the DOH said in a statement released Saturday (October 9).
More raffle entries are given to fully vaccinated individuals. Senior citizens will receive double the amount of entries.
The health department said that this is to ensure that people return for their second dose and that the most vulnerable sector — the senior citizens — are vaccinated and protected.
“Every Filipino vaccinated is another Filipino protected. Through this raffle, we celebrate the contribution that each Filipino makes in choosing to get vaccinated and playing their part to end this pandemic,” said Secretary of Health Francisco T. Duque III.
House Committee on Ways and Means chairman and Albay Representative Joey Salceda, however, believes that it is more sensible to give monetary allowances as an incentive to those who will avail of the government’s vaccination program.
Salceda said it really doesn’t matter if an individual wins the raffle or not. The problem, he said, is the fact that one must have to take a leave from work to get vaccinated, losing the opportunity to earn even if it was just a minimum wage.
The lawmaker said that he has filed a bill that will mandate the government to set an allowance equivalent to a day’s wage for vaccination. —/mbmf (from the report of UNTV Correspondent Nel Maribojoc)
