MANILA, Philippines — The House Committee on Good Government has insisted that the OCTA Research group must have public accountability and that it should limit the statements they release regarding COVID-19.
Committee Chairman Michael Aglipay said the group must also refrain from making any commentaries relative to the highly contagious viral disease.
“Mas maganda na lamang yung press statement rather yung mga interview na tig 30 minutes. Alam naman niyo ang media maraming questions na leading,” Aglipay said.
However, while OCTA agreed with the committee, Professor Ranjit Rye said the autonomy of their group deserves to be respected and must be given the opportunity to explain their findings.
“In recognition to our autonomy as a research organization, sometimes we need to explain our tables,” Rye said.
OCTA, nevertheless, gave the assurance that it will cooperate with the Health Department to avoid the issuance of contradicting data to the public. —/mbmf (with details from Nel Maribojoc)
