MANILA, Philippines — House of Representatives (HOR) lawmakers on Monday called on their counterpart in the Senate to expedite the hearing on the 2022 national budget.

House Deputy Speaker, BH Partylist Representative Bernadette Herrera-Dy and Committee on Ways and Means vice chairman, Albay 2nd District Representative Joey Salceda said the Senate must speed up their hearing process on the 2022 General Appropriations Bill (GAB).

“We appeal to our senators to swiftly pass the 2022 national budget that is expected to help the country recover and emerge stronger from the COVID-19 pandemic,” Herrera said,

The lawmaker also noted that they submitted the printed version of the bill to the Senate to give the Upper House sufficient time to scrutinize the proposed budget.

Salceda, meanwhile, said the government cannot afford to work on a reenacted budget, as such will have a negative impact on investors and will affect the country’s recovering economy.

“A reenactment of the 2021 budget will result almost certainly in us missing our targets for this year due to its impacts on investor confidence. It will also almost certainly lower our growth potential for 2022,” Salceda said. —/mbmf (from the report of UNTV Correspondent Nel Maribojoc)
