MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte has announced that the government has completed the full vaccination series of 27 million people in the country amid its fight against COVID-19.
The President made the announcement in his weekly Talk to the Nation aired Wednesday (November 3) morning.
In total, the government has administered 59.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines with 32 million given as the first dose of the vaccination rollout.
The president said that fully vaccinated Filipinos comprise 35.5 percent of the target population, which puts the country on track to reach 50% full vaccination by the end of the year.
“Furthermore, I am happy to report that we exceeded our target of 55 million doses to be administered in October primarily because the supply came in droves,” Duterte said.
“Ibig sabihin sige dating ang mga — sa awa ng Diyos — ‘yung mga donations pati ‘yung binili natin, procured by government,” he added.
The president also thanked the United States of America, China, Japan, South Korea, Germany, among others, for what he calls “generous” vaccine donations by these countries.
The country on Tuesday also received 2.7 million doses of Sputnik V vaccine from Russia which is part of the Philippines’ procurement stream.
“I thank Russia, particularly President Vladimir Putin, for ensuring we receive these doses in a timely manner,” Duterte said.
As of November 2, close to 109 million doses of vaccines have arrived in the country.
“And it is now our job to get these doses in the arms of every Filipino,” the president said. —/mbmf
