MANILA, Philippines – Work at the Bureau of Immigration (BI) main office in Manila will only be until lunchtime on Tuesday, April 5 in anticipation of road closures for the inauguration of the newly completed Intramuros-Binondo Bridge.
“In view of the impending road closures for the inauguration of the Intramuros-Binondo bridge, notice is hereby given to all BI officials, employees, and clients that work in BI-Main Office shall have a regular working schedule from 0700H up to 1200H on Tuesday, April 5,” the bureau said in an advisory.
“However, all offices shall maintain skeletal workforce on standby from 1201H up to 1730H to ensure continuity and unhampered delivery of immigration services to the public,” it added.
The bureau said all its frontline services have been directed to ensure that all clients inside the main office premises shall be catered to and attended to.
“The bureau will resume its regular working hours from 0700H to 1730H on Wednesday, April 6, 2022,” the BI said.
The bureau also announced that Magallanes Drive in Intramuros (BI Main office street) will be closed on Tuesday, still in line with the bridge inauguration.
It advised the public to plan their trips and transactions in advance to avoid inconvenience due to the temporary closure.
The Binondo-Intramuros Bridge was constructed under the Philippines-China government-to-government cooperation projects, which aim to improve road network and increase transportation capacity in Metro Manila.
The bridge, which has a total length of 680-lineal meters, involves the construction of a four-lane 70 meters long and 21.65 meters wide basket-handle tied steel arch bridge connecting Intramuros at Solana Street and Riverside Drive and Binondo at Rentas Street and Muelle de la Industria having a viaduct structure over Estero de Binondo.
It is expected to cater to over 30,000 motorists daily and will improve traffic conditions in Metro Manila.
