MANILA, Philippines — The number of jobless Filipinos in February reached 3.13 million, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said Thursday.
The PSA’s latest Labor Force Survey showed that the country’s unemployment rate in February settled at 6.4 percent, which is lower than the unemployment rate of 8.8 percent in the same month last year.
Although the unemployment rate remained the same compared to January 2022, the state statistics bureau noted that the 3.13 million jobless Filipinos reported in February is slightly higher than the 2.93 million logged in January.
The underemployment rate meanwhile, eased to 14 percent in February compared to 14.9 percent in January 2022 and 18.2 percent in February 2021.
Around 6.38 million accounted for underemployed persons in the previous month, the PSA said.
On the other hand, the employment rate for the month of February increased by 2.33 million to 93.6 percent with 43.15 million Filipinos.
This is higher compared to the 91.2 percent or 43.02 million Filipinos the previous month, the PSA said.
