MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will conduct stress debriefing to the families of 44 members of the PNP Special Action Force killed in Mamasapano, Maguindanao.

This aims to help the families of the victims to recover from intense trauma brought by the loss of their loved ones.

The DSWD will give time for the families to mourn the death of the SAF members before they undergo stress debriefing.

“For now, they are in mourning. We are waiting for that to pass, then we will start the stress debriefing, because it is important that the family is ready to speak,” ASec. Javier Jimenez, Spokesperson, DSWD said in an interview.

According to the DSWD, their social workers from regional offices are monitoring the families of the victims, and once they are ready, they will undergo various activities.

The DSWD has also extended livelihood assistance to relatives of the slain PNP-SAF members.

“We were tasked and ordered by President Aquino to provide livelihood, and to check if educational assistance is required,” Jimenez said.

Apart from the DSWD, various groups and organizations have extended assistance, like cash assistance and scholarship programs for the families.

Some of the killed SAF commandos have already been laid to rest, but their families continue to call for justice for their deaths. (Joan Nano / UNTV News)
