MANILA, Philippines – At 9 a.m. today, Vice Mayor Romulo Kid Peña took his oath as acting Mayor of Makati after the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) served the suspension order to Mayor Jun Jun Binay.
After the oath taking, Peña proceeded to the old Makati City hall where he intended to hold office. He also planned to call a department heads meeting.
“The word ‘atat na atat’ (overeager) well for the longest time I’ve been answering that I did not ask for this. This has been given me as a public servant, a town leader, we need to adhere, to follow this time,” Peña said.
But even before Peña could assume his position as acting mayor, the Court of Appeals (CA) granted the request of Mayor Junjun Binay for a temporary restraining order (TRO) on the suspension order issued by the Ombudsman.
With this development, Vice Mayor Peña assured that he will respect the rule of law and will just wait what will happen next.
“I am waiting for their call, just the same whatever will be the directive of DILG I will abide by it,” Peña added.
He also clarified that he is not offended and he will continue to serve for the city of Makati.
