MANILA, Philippines – Even though the House leadership does favor the continuation of the Mamasapano probe, the House Committee on Public Order and Safety is still planning to resume the said investigation.

Committee chairman Rep. Jeffrey Ferrer said there are still some points that they want to clarify.

Among this is the involvement of the United States in “Oplan Exodus” as stated in the Senate committee report.

The committee will send another invitation to representatives of the U.S. government for them to explain their participation in the capture of international terrorist Marwan.

“This hearing is an invitation but if they don’t want to attend we still invite them. But for me I want them to attend to clear these things out,” Ferrer said.

The committee will also invite relieved SAF chief Getulio Napeñas, resigned PNP chief Alan Purisima, PNP OIC Dep. Dir. Gen. Leonardo Espina, DILG Sec. Mar Roxas, DND Sec. Voltaire Gazmin and other PNP and AFP officials as resource persons.

“What we need here are the PNP and AFP officials, not the President,” Ferrer added.

Should the committee resume the hearing in May, it will be through an executive session.

To date, copies of the BOI report were distributed among the members of the committee for them to study so as not to repeat same questions.

The Committee chairman assured that he will talk to his colleagues to be calm and collected to prevent the chaos that happened before.

“Maybe next time my colleagues will be more behaved. We will observe proper decorum,” Ferrer said.

As of now, 126 congressmen signed a petition calling on the House leader to resume the Mamasapano probe. (Grace Casin / UNTV News)
