MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Transportation and Communications will start the implementation of the “No Registration, No Travel” policy this coming April
This is in time with the long holiday wherein many people will travel to the provinces.
The transportation department said that this is part of the Oplan Ligtas Biyahe or the safe travel program of the agency.
DOTC Sec. Joseph Emilio Abaya said, “We must start implementing it this Holy Wednesday, this will be beneficial to commuters travelling this coming vacation.”
The department added that many accidents happen on the road during the long vacation.
In case an unregistered vehicle is involved in an accident, the authorities will have a hard time tracking it.
Apprehended violators will be fined five thousand pesos.
The transportation department calls on car owners to get their plates to their car dealers because it is now available.
The Land Transportation Office had solved the backlog issue and thousand of unclaimed plates are piling up in their stockroom.
There are more than three thousand unclaimed motorvehicle plates and more than fifty thousand motorcycle plates are waiting to be claimed.
LTO orders car dealers not to release brand new cars to owner without their registration documents and plates.
LTO Spokesperson Jason Salvador stated, “Until the vehicle itself is properly registered meaning with the issuance of the certificate of registration and official receipt and the plates you will no longer be allowed to deliver or to allow your customers to deliver it home.”
Under the LTO plate standardization project, the goal is to replace the old plates of 5 million motor vehicles and 9 million motorcyle with new plates.
The LTO explained the importance of having cars registered for it may help in identifying and protecting motorists against carnapping and other crimes.
The implementation of the “No Registration, No Travel” policy has been delayed to give motorists more time to complete their registration. (MON JOCSON / UNTV News)
