MANILA, Philippines – The 120 congressmen who signed the petition letter succeeded on their agenda for the House to continue the Mamasapano probe.

Even if a significant number of congressmen were against the move House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. agreed to resume the investigation.

The House Committee on Peace and Reconciliation together with the Committee on Public Order and Safety are set to continue the hearing on April 7 and 8.  This is through a special hearing as Congress is now on recess until May 4.

Committee chairman Jeffrey Ferrer earlier said the committee will send another invitation to representatives of the U.S. government for them to explain as Senate committee report stated their participation in the capture of international terrorist Marwan.

“We still invite them. But for me I want them to attend to clear these things out,” he said.

Some lawmakers also want to invite the families of the slain members of the SAF 44.

The families of the Gallant 44 had earlier appealed to the House for them to have a venue where they can personally ask the PNP commanders, such as relieved PNP SAF director Getulio Napeñas and resigned PNP chief Alan Purisima, as to what came about to their slain relatives.

“When we met them they showed us text messages of their son, brother, husband fiancé of Eraña we should invite them,” said 1-BAP Party-list Rep. Silvestre Bello. (Grace Casin / UNTV News)
