PASIG CITY, Philippines — Both the AFP Cavaliers and the PNP Responders maintain a clean record as the 1st round eliminations of the UNTV Cup season 4 continues at the Ynares Sports Arena.

In group B, the AFP Cavaliers take the lead with a 3-straight-win record.

The season 2 champion AFP Cavaliers proved that it is the team to beat this season after a 9-point victory over the defending champion Judiciary Magis in a match last Thursday at the Ynares Sports Arena with a final score of 90-81.

Because of this, the Judiciary Magis, which has not won any of its three games, is faced with a threat to be eliminated this season.

The Cavaliers was led by Technical Sergeant Rolando Pascual who contributed 8 of the team’s 24 points during the crucial stretch in the fourth quarter of the match, thus hailed the best player of the game.

Dominating all four quarters through strong offense, the AFP Cavaliers was steered by point guard Boyet Bautista who made 26 points, which include four 3-point shots, 6 rebounds, and 2 blocks.

On the other hand, reigning MVP Ariel Capus, who leads the offense of Judiciary Magis, earned a game-high 32 points.

Judiciary Magis guard, Don Camaso was not prepared for the tough defense of the Cavaliers. He registered only 10 points and grabbed 15 rebounds.

Meanwhile, the PNP Responders secured its second win when it smothered the DOJ Justice Boosters in game 2 with a final score 98-58.

Two-time MVP Ollan “The Sniper” Omiping buried 24 points worth of buckets, including four 3-pointers, and was credited for 2 assists and 2 blocks.

While guard Julius Criste contributed 17 points, 3 rebounds and 1 steal for the Responders.

The BFP Firefighters rose to 2nd place in group b, having a 2-1 win-loss record.

The Firefighters ceased the Ombudsman Graft Busters’ attempt to get its first win in the league.

The BFP was led by power forward Marlon Adolfo who garnered 24 points and 10 rebounds. While guard Richmond Sibal made 17 points and 4 rebounds.

Benzon Franco scored 37 points, while 7-footer center Ej Feihl made 13 rebounds and 6 assists for the Graft Busters, which is now down to the 5th place, with a 0-2 win-loss record. (UNTV News)
