MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police will provide security to the family of slain Loreto, Agusan del Sur Mayor Dario Otaza.
PNP Chief P/DIR. Gen. Ricardo Marquez expressed grief over the death of the mayor who advocated for the banishing of the rebels’ influence in the town.
Marquez explained Otaza was himself a former member of the New People’s Army, who surrendered and became a local partner of the government in putting up programs ensuring rebel returnees get necessary support as they transition back into the mainstream.
