QUEZON CITY, Philippines — Armed Forces Chief General Hernando Iriberri denies reports that there are jihadists training camps in the country particularly in Mindanao.
Iriberri says up to this date, there are no confirmation about it and they have not monitored any ISIS recruitment activity.
“Wala pong apat na jihadist camps na training camps at wala pong recruitment ng ISIS,” Gen. Hernando Iriberri said.
(There are no four jihadists training camps or any ISIS recruitment activity.)
He also stressed that members of the Ansar Al-Khilafah Philippines or AKP,with which the AFP encountered killing eight of its members including an Indonesian, has no connection with ISIS.
“Based on our assessment, really they are not a group which they call ISIS. They want to be associated with ISIS but this group is purely a criminal group engaged in extortion activities,” General Iriberri stressed.
The military and the police have conducted law enforcement operation on November 26 against AKP due to complaints of criminal activities in the community of Sultan Kudarat.
He said the group is just using the name ISIS to threaten and suppress the residents.
Iriberri said, the military has seen no sign of Iraqi or Syrian terrorists in Mindanao despite reports of their existence in Mindanao.
“I think there was a report that I think there were 11. This was reported even before but we have not confirmed if they are really here,” Iriberri added.
The AFP guarantees that it is exerting all efforts together with other security forces to neutralize lawless elements in the country. (JOAN NANO / UNTV News)
