MANILA, Philippines —
United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) vice presidential candidate Senator Gringo Honasan believes that his party has nothing to do with the disqualification cases filed against Senator Grace Poe.

Sen. Gregorio Honasan said, “Wala kaming capability at intention dahil alam namin kung ano ang pakiramdam nung being the target eh; sustained target.”

(We have no capability and intention because we know how it feels to be a target; a sustained target.)

Meanwhile, Senator Honasan and Senator Nancy Binay said, political discourses should not get too personal among candidates.

This is in response to the recent slapping issue between Liberal Party bet Mar Roxas and PDP-LABAN standard bearer Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

Sen. Honasan said, “Sana mapako sa platforms and program; maiwasan yung personality attack.”

(Let’s not focus on personality attacks but on platforms and programs.)

Sen. Nancy Binay said, “This is not time to bash each other and hopefully sana pagdating ng eleksyon hindi maging ganun ang tono ng pangangampanya na personalan… Sana magkaayos silang dalawa na walang magaganap na sampalan.”

(This is not the time to bash each other and hopefully when election comes, the tone of campaigning shouldn’t get too personal. Hopefully they make up.)

Senator Binay said, criticisms have been diverted away from their family for now though she believes it will be revived come election time.

“Feeling namin pagdating ng January babalik na naman ulit sa amin parang nandoon pa rin ang situation na babalik kung anu yung paninira na ginawa sa pamilya.”

(We feel that when January comes, our family will be at the center of criticisms again.)

For his part, Senator Honasan calls on media men to exercise responsible news casting especially on politically-related issues.

“Kung dadaanin natin palagi sa trial by publicity nagiging irrelevant na yung due process yung rule of law isara na lang natin ang judiciary, yung law schools at burahin na natin sa talaan ng mga propesyun yung pag-aabogado ganun ang mangyayari, so I suggest na you help in this.”

(If we exercise trial by publicity, due process on the rule of law becomes irrelevant. We should close the judiciary then, abolish the law schools and remove the lawyer from the list of professions. So I suggest that you help in this.)
