PASAY CITY, Philippines — Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Government, Senator Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr., will propose for the attendance of former DOJ Secretary Leila de Lima to the reopening of the Senate investigation on the Mamasapano incident.

Aside from De Lima, the current Justice Secretary, Alfredo Benjamin Caguioa, is also expected to be invited to the hearing.

They will be asked to report updates on the status of the complaints filed against the gruesome massacre that happened on January 25, 2015 that killed 44 PNP-SAF troopers.

Marcos said it has been a year since the massacre happened and yet, no one has been convicted. “They [SAF44 families] are not mentioning any benefits, money or financial aid. What they are asking for is justice,” he said.

Meanwhile, Senator Juan Ponce Enrile said he proposed the reopening of the investigation to scrutinize further all the details and apprehend those responsible for the crime.

Malacañang is also awaiting update on the case.

Presidential Spokesperson Sec. Edwin Lacierda said, “As far as we are concerned… the testimonies have all been put out. [We] have been forthright, so we don’t know what other new information can still be presented.”

For her part, Senator Grace Poe said the list of resource persons to be invited to the probe will be disclosed next week.
